Iran's Zarif praises Macron for nuclear deal ideas

Proposals put forward by France's President Emmanuel Macron about the resolution of Iran's disputed nuclear program are a step "in the right direction," Mohammad Javad Zarif told AFP on Friday. The Middle Eastern country's minister of foreign affairs met with him ahead of the summit of the Group of Seven in Biarritz to discuss the fate of the so-called Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which led to the abolishment of sanctions against the Islamic Republic in 2016.

The pact was abandoned last year by the United States and Iran has been reducing compliance with it while at the same time negotiating with the European states which are the signatories of the agreement adopted within the framework of the United Nations.

Zarif earlier said the discussion with Macron was "productive."
