Johnson: Canceling Brexit worst thing for democracy

United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson told Sky News on Friday that in his opinion, the "worst thing for democracy" would be to cancel the Brexit referendum now, noting that Parliament has the mandate to deliver on the will of the people.

The prime minister stated that his intention now is to "try and get a deal," not dismissing the possibility of leaving the European Union without an exit agreement as he said that "preparations for a no-deal have greatly strengthened our position." "The more our friends [in the EU] think Brexit could be stopped, the less likely they are to give us a deal," he underlined.

Turning to the issue of suspended Parliament, Johnson brushed off lawmakers' concerns by saying that they will have "a lot of time for further Brexit consideration" once the legislative body is back in business.
