Wall Street ends higher on US-China trade talks deal

Stocks in the United States closed with strong gains on Thursday after Washington and Beijing agreed to resume trade negotiations in October in Washington and China's Commerce Minister Gao Hucheng claimed the two sides are making "substantial progress" towards an agreement. Investors also digested an array of positive data, including a jobs report that showed private payrolls surged by 195,000 in August.

The Dow Jones jumped 1.41% or 371 points with IBM surging 3.41%. The Nasdaq 100 rallied 1.86%. Nvidia led the gains as the chipmaker's shares skyrocketed 6.51%. The S&P 500 rose 1.30%. The best performer was IPG Photonics, whose stock aored 7.76%.

The euro traded flat against the dollar, going for 1.1036 at 4:02 pm ET.
