Trump fires National Security Advisor John Bolton

United States President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he asked National Security Advisor John Bolton to resign this morning after the two "disagreed" on a number of issues.

Trump tweeted: "I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House. I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration, and therefore I asked John for his resignation, which was given to me this morning. I thank John very much for his service. I will be naming a new National Security Advisor next week."

According to media reports, Bolton and Trump disagreed on the US policies on Afghanistan, Iran and North Korea. Most recently, Bolton, who is considered to be a foreign policy hawk, is said to have been kept out of the loop on an attempted deal with the Taliban. The meeting with the Afghani group was canceled by the president after a terror attack in Kabul.
