Total CEO worried about consequences of Saudi attacks

Patrick Pouyanne (pictured), the CEO of French oil giant Total S.A., said on Tuesday he is "deeply concerned" by the heightened tensions in the Middle East following attacks on Saudi Aramco's oil facilities.

"Launching an attack on half of Saudi Arabia’s oil production will have consequences," Pouyanne stated during a parliamentary hearing. "I fear this major attack will not be left without retaliation. We don’t know where all this will end," he warned.

Earlier today, United States Vice President Mike Pence stressed his country is ready to respond to the "unprovoked attacks" on Saudi Arabia. Washington and Riyadh have blamed Iran for the incidents despite the fact that Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed they were behind the attacks, while Tehran denied any involvement. US President Donald Trump claimed he would like to avoid a war with Iran but pointed out he is ready to launch a military response if necessary.
