Airbus expects plane demand at 39,210 units by 2038

Airbus SE said on Wednesday that it expects the demand for its commercial planes to stand at 39,210 units over the next 20 years. The figure marks an upward revision from the aerospace giant's previous forecast of 37,289.

The company noted it intends to replace over 14,200 planes with around 38,360 new passenger aircraft and 850 new freighters, which would bring its commercial fleet to 47,680 jets by 2038. The improved outlook is mostly attributed to demand in Asia-Pacific, which is set to account for 42% of the deliveries. Meanwhile, deliveries to North American and European airlines combined will account for 36% of the deliveries during the 20 year period, the firm added.

Airbus also noted it now sees average 20-year traffic growth at 4.3%, down from 4.4% it previously forecast.
