China holding FedEx pilot in detention

A FedEx Corp. pilot Todd Hohn was detained last week in southern China by local authorities, his family's attorney confirmed on Thursday.

According to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal, the pilot was waiting for his flight back home to Hong Kong when he got apprehended at the airport in Guangzhou. He was reportedly caught carrying "pellets used in low-power replica air guns," for which he was accused of illegally transporting ammunition. The authorities have started a criminal investigation against the pilot, during which he is not allowed to leave Mainland China, the sources familiar with the situation said.

FedEx told the Journal: "Chinese authorities in Guangzhou detained and later released one of our pilots on bail after an item was found in his luggage prior to a commercial flight. Earlier in June, China launched an investigation into FedEx's potential misconduct in handling Huawei documents and parcels.
