Kuwait raises security alert at oil ports

Kuwait's authorities raised the country's security alert at oil and commercial ports on Friday, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported citing the country's industry minister.

"The decision emphasizes that all measures have to be taken to protect the vessels and the ports facilities," the report noted.

The move comes amid tensions in the Middle East which escalated following attacks on two Saudi Aramco's oil facilities on September 14. The United States and Saudi Arabia blamed Iran for the incidents, but Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed they were behind the attacks and Tehran insisted it was not involved. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates joined the US-led coalition which aims to protect the water routes in the Middle East from alleged threats from Iran.
