House condemns Trump for withholding complaint

The House of Representatives in Washington passed a nonbinding resolution in which it rebuked the White House for conduct in the wake of the scandal which eventually led to an impeachment inquiry. The criticism is aimed at withholding information about a complaint by a whistleblower, who has raised the alarm after United States President Donald Trump spoke in July with Ukraine's head of state Volodymyr Zelensky. The government has attempted to block the release of the document to Congress.

Such efforts were "unprecedented and highly inappropriate" as the administration was attempting to discredit the still anonymous person, according to the lawmakers, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Politico reported, citing activity by leading Democrats, that they seem to have opted to focus on the Ukraine scandal in impeachment proceedings. The news organization learned the initiative has reached a majority of 217 Democrats and independent Representative Justin Amash.
