GOP urged Ukraine to reform prosecutor office in 2016

Several Republican senators have requested from then-Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to reform the country's prosecutor general's office and judiciary in 2016.

In a bipartisan letter sent to Kiev in February 2016, the senators urged Poroshenko to fight corruption and "press ahead with urgent reforms to the Prosecutor General's office and judiciary."

Viktor Shokin (pictured), who was the general prosecutor of Ukraine at the time, was forced to resign in March the same year following a vote of no confidence in the country's Parliament. However, United States President Donald Trump claims he was fired due to his investigation of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden's son.
