Europe opens slightly lower with trade, Brexit in focus

Major stock indexes opened in slightly lower on Monday with global trade and Brexit related developments in focus. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson reiterated the United Kingdom will leave the European Union on October 31, while media wrote he may be willing to the Supreme Court in an effort to avoid having to write a letter asking for a delay to Brexit. On data, statistical office Destatis reported factory orders declined in Germany in August. Sentix was set to report on investor confidence in the EU and Halifax on house prices in the UK later in the day.

The FTSE 100 started the first trading session of the week unchanged with Kingfisher opening lowest and Nmc Health plc highest. The DAX decreased just 0.03%, as Continental AG fell 1.49%. The CAC 40 lost 0.21% with Air Liquide S.A. tumbling 8.82%.

The euro was flat against the dollar at 8:59 am ET, selling for $1.09790. The pound slipped 0.18% against the greenback to go for $1.23142 at the same time.
