Two civilians killed in Turkey's Syria op

First civilian casualties were reported on Wednesday, hours after Turkey launched a military operation in northern Syria in an effort to "prevent the creation of a terror corridor" along Turkey's southern border.

Amid reports of two civilian deaths, Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces called on coalition countries "to bear their responsibility and prevent a possible imminent humanitarian catastrophe." They also reported widespread airstrikes and "huge panic" among the population in the border region.

The decision to carry out a strike came after the US announced Washington would withdraw troops from the region, the move described by the SDF as a "stab in the back."
