Wall Street stocks jump as Trump, China's Liu to meet

Equities opened broadly and significantly higher in New York on Friday, looking to finish the third session in a row in the green for the first time in more than a month. Sentiment was kept upbeat on hopes of a breakthrough in bilateral negotiations between the United States and China.

Vice Premier Liu He has come from Beijing, set to meet President Donald Trump in the White House, where insiders told the media a mini deal of a sort could be in preparation. It would be similar to a solution the US found with Japan on free trade. Focus was also on Brexit as traders waited for a possible agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom.

The Dow Jones Industrials surged 1.12% or almost 300 points. Caterpillar outperformed others, gaining 3.35%. The Nasdaq 100 advanced 1.29% and the S&P 500 traded 1.11% up. The euro was 0.48% higher at $1.1058 at 9:31 am ET and the dollar grew by 0.39% to ¥108.407. Gold sunk 0.52% to $1,485.86 per ounce.
