Putin invites Erdogan to visit 'in coming days'

A conflict between the Turkish and Syrian armies must be avoided, Russia's President Vladimir Putin told Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a phone call, the Kremlin said. The authorities in Ankara initiated the conversation, according to the readout, which adds the head of state invited Turkey's president for a "working visit" and that he accepted to arrive "in the coming days."

Putin's press service added both leaders expressed support to the integrity of Syria and the efforts to reach a political solution for the war there. The next meeting under the United Nations framework is planned for end-October in Geneva, the government in Moscow noted. Russia's president stressed it is "unacceptable" for captured "terrorists" who are under the watch of Kurdish fighters and the Syrian Democratic Forces to take advantage of the current instability.
