Twitter to mark world leaders' rule breaches

Users won't be able to like, retweet or share content of candidates or holders of public office if it violates the company's rules but some of the messages may be kept online, behind a notice, if it is in the public interest, Twitter Inc said. Such exceptions require more than one hundred thousand followers and they help readers to be informed about global affairs, according to the announcement.

"We consider content to be in the public interest if it directly contributes to understanding or discussion of a matter of public concern," the microblogging system operator said. The excepted tweets can, however, be quoted, the update reveals.

Enforcement action will still be taken in the cases of promoting terrorism, threats of violence, posting personal data, intimate photos or videos without consent, engaging in behaviors relating to child sexual exploitation and encouraging or promoting self-harm, Twitter claimed.
