Europe closes lower as EU, UK seal Brexit deal

European equities ended the session on Thursday in the red as investors digested the news about the sealing of a withdrawal deal between the United Kingdom and the European Union. It remains, however, to be seen whether the UK's House of Commons would approve of it as the opposition signaled it would most likely oppose it.

Wirecard lost 2.73% at the close, driving the German DAX down 0.12% as the session ended. The French CAC 40 contracted 0.42% at the close, with Pernod Ricard leading the losses as it plunged 4.17%. The FTSE 100 also ended trading in the negative territory, diving 0.61%. Mondi was the worst performer on the London Stock Exchange, plummeting 5.02%.

The pound gained 0.15% against the greenback at 5:56 pm CET, to sell for 1.28511, while the EU's single currency advanced 0.51% against the US dollar, going for 1.11274 at the same time.
