J&J recalling baby powder due to asbestos traces

Johnson & Johnson announced on Friday it was recalling approximately 33,000 bottles of baby powder in the United States after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found traces of asbestos in the product.

The pharmaceutical giant stated it has started an investigation into the matter and that it was working with the US regulator to determine the integrity of the tested sample and the validity of the test results. It stated the FDA tests found the product contained no more than 0.00002% of chrysotile asbestos.

J&J was previously accused of knowingly selling baby powder contains the carcinogenic asbestos for decades, something the company vehemently denies. Earlier in May, a court ordered J&J to pay $300 million in punitive damages to a woman who blamed her asbestos-related cancer on the pharma company's talc-based products.
