Assad: Erdogan is thief who steals land

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad slammed his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday, calling him a "thief." As he visited Syrian troops in Idlib, Assad claimed that Erdogan "stole the factories, the wheat and oil" and added: "Today, he is stealing the land."

Earlier this month, Turkey launched a military operation in Northern Syria, saying its goal was to clear the area from Kurdish "terrorists" and Islamic State (ISIS) militants. Erdogan insisted Ankara is not interested in conquering any country's territory and only wants to ensure security.

Turkey agreed with the United States last week to suspend the operation and implement a 120-hour ceasefire to allow Kurdish forces to withdraw from the region but warned the operation will resume if Washington doesn't keep its promise.
