Johnson: UK accelerating no-deal Brexit preparations

United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson told Parliament on Tuesday that his government has accelerated preparations for a no-deal Brexit amid latest developments and urged lawmakers to ratify his withdrawal agreement in time as backing the deal is the "best way" to avoid crashing out of the European Union with no deal.

Opening the debate on the Withdrawal Agreement Bill, Johnson stressed that, if the House of Commons backs his Brexit deal today and passes necessary legislation over the next few days, Britain will be able to "deescalate" no-deal preparations and focus on other priorities such as "building a new relationship" with the EU, as well as domestic issues.

Earlier, EU officials warned that the European Parliament will not ratify the agreement before the UK Parliament does and insisted an agreement was in everyone's interest. Meanwhile, UK's opposition parties, including Labour, DUP and SNP, voiced concerns about the agreement and stated they will vote against it.
