Turkey to deploy S-400 until spring 2020 - Def Min

The work on the deployment of Russian S-400 missile systems in Turkey will continue until the spring of 2020, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said on Thursday. He added that the talks with Washington regarding US Patriot missiles will continue as well.

"Efforts to make these air defense systems work full capacity will continue until spring 2020," Akar stated.

Turkey received two batches of the S-400 surface-to-air missile systems so far, the first contingent in July and the second in September, becoming the first NATO member to purchase S-400 from Russia despite the opposition from the United States. The discussion with Moscow on additional assets already begun as Turkey's Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu previously asserted that his country was ready to negotiate a deal with Russia if there is no possibility of getting Raytheon Co.'s Patriot systems from the US.
