China won't sign trade deal unless tariffs removed - report

Beijing is threatening to delay the signing of the "phase one" trade agreement with the United States unless the Trump administration removes all tariffs implemented on Chinese imports, the Nikkei Asian Review reported on Tuesday.

The claims made in the article echo those in the statement of the editor-in-chief of Chinese state media Global Times, who claimed Beijing wouldn't agree to any of the "major concessions" proposed unless Washington suspended all levies.

The partial agreement, which was recently thought to be close to being signed, is focused on reducing the US trade deficit with China while not addressing structural issues such as intellectual property rights.
