US wholesale inventories down 0.4% in September

Wholesale inventories in the United States were down 0.4% in September compared to the previous month's revised level, standing at $676.71 billion, the US Census Bureau reported on Friday. However, the figure represented a 4.8% increase on an annual basis.

Meanwhile, September sales of merchant wholesalers adjusted for seasonal variations and trading-day differences but not for price changes were unchanged from the revised August level at $498.6 billion but fell 0.6% year-on-year.

The ratio between inventories and sales for merchant wholesalers was 1.36 in September, down from the same month a year ago when it stood at 1.29.
