US consumer sentiment almost unchanged in November

Consumer sentiment index in the United States stood at 95.7 November, almost unchanged from both the last month's reading of 95.5 and slightly lower than the market expectations, the University of Michigan said in its latest survey released on Friday.

The Current Conditions Index fell 2% on a monthly basis to 110.9. The number was 1.2% lower year-on-year. The forward-looking component, aimed at recoding consumers' expectations, stood at 85.9, dropping 2.5% on a yearly basis while being 2% higher compared to the previous month.

Richard Curtin, chief economist of consumer surveys, said consumers voiced a slightly more positive outlook for the economy, which was offset by a slightly less favorable outlook for their own personal finances. Every fourth consumer mentioned tariffs in a negative context, while references to the impact of impeachment on economic prospects were virtually non-existent, he added.
