China requests UK inquiry on HK minister's injury

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang stated on Friday that Beijing officials are requesting that UK authorities investigate yesterday's incident in London, during which Teresa Cheng Yeuk-wah, Hong Kong's justice secretary, was injured.

"The UK should also protect the safety and integrity of all Chinese people in the nation," Geng added. He underlined that "China will support the Hong Kong SAR [Special Administrative Region] government" and its police and judiciary.

At least 30 protesters confronted Cheng on Thursday in the British capital, but it was not revealed if a push caused injuries to her arm. She notified the local police after the incident and released a statement asking the British law enforcement to "take the case seriously and put the culprits to justice".
