Policeman killed in Iran petrol riots - report

A policeman died from wounds sustained in a clash with rioters protesting the fuel price hike in Iran, state news agency IRNA reported on Sunday.

The officer is the second confirmed victim since the protests erupted across the Middle Eastern country on Friday after Tehran announced it will start rationing petrol and remove subsidies on it. Several media outlets reported the government shut down nearly all internet access in the country due to the protests.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei expressed support for the price increase, accusing "counter-revolutionaries" and country's enemies of instigating the riots.
