Erdogan: Will look for alternatives if US persists on F-35

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated on Tuesday that he told United States President Donald Trump that if Washington persists about its conditions on the F-35 fighters jets deal, his government will have to seek other solutions when it comes to arms purchases.

The president of Turkey made the remarks in a speech to governing AK Party's Parliamentary group meeting in Ankara.

During Erdogan's visit to Washington last week, Trump said that he expects that a deal on the F-35 program between the two countries will be "worked out". However, Erdogan, upon his return, revealed that Turkey is not ready to cancel the purchase of the Russian-made S-400 missile defense system, which is an obstacle to closing the F-35 deal.
