House passes bill to avoid govt shutdown

The United States House of Representatives, where the Democrats have a majority, passed a continuing resolution that has the aim of avoiding a government shutdown after November 21.

The temporary piece of legislation would keep the government running until December 20.

Earlier, President Donald Trump said he supports the stop-gap funding bill, meaning that it is likely to also pass the Senate where it is headed next. Once the Senate passes it, it will go to Trump for his final approval.
