Private data shows surprise build in US crude inventories

Crude oil inventories in the United States rose by 6 million in the week ending November 15, private data from the American Petroleum Institute (API) revealed on Tuesday.

Official US data will be released on Wednesday by the Energy Information Administration.

Crude benchmarks extended losses in post-settlement trade following the data, with Brent futures for January settlement losing 2.46% to $60.78 per barrel at 4:31 pm ET, while West Texas Intermediate dropped 2.49% to $55.52 a barrel.
