Hong Kong govt: US bill won't solve unrest

The Hong Kong government criticized the United States Congress for passing a bill which supports anti-government protesters in the Chinese special administrative region.

Hong Kong claimed that the legislation will not help put an end to the six-month-long protests and "social unrest" in the city and claimed the move sends a "wrong signal" to demonstrators.

The Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act, which would require China's special administrative region’s special trade status with the US to be reviewed every year and would also sanction Chinese officials found to be undermining the protests, was passed by the US Senate and the House of Representatives and is expected to be signed into law by President Donald Trump soon.
