Trump: HK bill doesn't help chances of China trade deal

United States President Donald Trump told reporters in front of the White House on Monday that his decision to sign the bill supporting anti-government protesters in Hong Kong doesn't make chances of reaching a trade deal with China "better" but insisted it is still possible an agreement will be reached.

Asked if the bill will make striking a deal with Beijing harder, Trump responded: "It doesn’t make it better, but we’ll see what happens." The US president once again insisted that the Chinese "want to make a deal."

Last week, China slammed Trump for signing the Hong Kong bill and announced retaliatory measures against the US.
