USTR suggests imposing $2.4B of tariffs on French imports

The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) published a statement on Monday claiming that "France's Digital Services Tax (DST) discriminates against US companies", namely Google llc, Apple Inc., Facebook Inc. and Amazon.com Inc. USTR suggested imposing tariffs of up to 100% on certain imports from France "with an approximate trade value of $2.4 billion."

Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer (pictured) said in the statement that similar investigations into digital tax practices may be opened against Austria, Italy, and Turkey as a measure of "countering the growing protectionism" in European countries.
