Typhoon Kammuri kills 3 in Philippines

On Tuesday typhoon Kammuri pounded the Philippines and forced the closure of the capital’s airport in Manila with around 500 flights cancelled. Bringing strong winds and heavy rains of up to 200 kilometers per hour, hundreds of thousands of people were forced to seek refuge in shelters.

The country is currently host to the regional Southeast Asian Games and hundreds of athletes are caught in the storm.

No stranger to typhoons, the Philippines are hit by roughly 20 storms and typhoons each year, killing hundreds and devastating the local infrastructure and economy.
