Ross: There is chance of breakthrough on US-China talks

United States Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross (pictured) said on Tuesday new tariffs on Chinese goods scheduled for December 15 will be applied unless there is some real reason to postpone it such as "substantive progress in talks." He noted that the US believes China wants to make a deal and that there is always a chance of a breakthrough that could impact December 15 tariffs.

Speaking on CNBC, Ross added the US has serious concerns about security risks related to Huawei as well as the treatment of Uyghurs in China.

The secretary expressed his belief that France is not the only country that "acts anti-American" adding that Europe doesn't have high technology and e-commerce champions as the US and is therefore "jealous." He added that Trump has flexibility when it comes to tariffs and that it remains to be seen if he would also impose tariffs on other countries that impose a digital tax.
