Wall Street opens mostly in green on trade, data

Equities on Wall Street opened the trading session in the green on Tuesday after the Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development reported that housing starts in the United States increased by 3.2% month-on-month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,365,000. US Industrial Production rose by 1.1%, the same percentage as manufacturing production.

Meanwhile, China said it will issue more tariff waivers for Chinese companies that decide to buy US agricultural products. US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said that both countries need to use the trade agreement in order "to get rich." He also confirmed that agriculture exports to China will double with phase one deal.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index stood flat at the open. UnitedHealth Group Inc was the best performer, increasing by 2.29% at 9:34 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 added 0.19% with NortonLifeLock leading the gains, jumping 1.63% at 9:35 am ET. The S&P 500 climbed 0.10%. Cabot Oil & Gas Corp surged 4.91% at 9:36 am ET.

The euro grew by 0.07% against the dollar, trading at 1.11523 at 9:32 am ET, while the pound fell by 1.49% compared to the greenback, going for 1.314796 at the same time.
