ADP measures rise in US employment of 202,000

The employment change registered for December in the United States came in at an increase 202,000, Automatic Data Processing (ADP) said on Wednesday.

The share of hiring in mid-sized businesses in the unofficial measure of nonfarm employment was 88,000, trailed by 45,000 in large companies. Employment in small businesses was at 69,000. Most of the boost from the prior months' pace was measured in the trade, transportation and utilities sectors, with 78,000 new workers. Service providers posted large gains, driven mostly by professional and business services. As many as 59,700 new franchise jobs were created.

"Job gains continue to moderate. Manufacturers, energy producers and small companies have been shedding jobs. Unemployment is low, but will begin to rise if job growth slows much further," Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody’s Analytics, which participates in the survey, said.
