Erdogan: Turkey won't let Syria break ceasefire deal

Turkey will not allow the Syrian government to break the Idlib ceasefire deal, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a parliamentary group meeting of his AK Party, Erdogan noted that Turkey will continue to insist that 400,000 refugees return to Syria from Turkey. He stressed: "If necessary we’ll stop regime’s attempts to break the ceasefire on our own. Everyone should see that we don’t joke, we will do whatever we say." The president added that his country does not have any "imperial desires" in Syria, Libya or any location in the Mediterranean, but only wants to "protect that rights" of Turkey and "its brothers."

Earlier, Russia and Turkey agreed to start a ceasefire in Idlib from January 12.
