Boeing orders drop in 2019 amid 737 MAX scandal

Boeing net new orders declined by 87 in 2019, the airplane makers said on Tuesday as the company battles its 737 MAX grounding scandal. Orders for the 737 MAX dropped by 183 aircraft year-on-year while orders on the 777 declined by 4. Meanwhile, Boeing 767 orders were up by 26 and 787 orders rose by 74 in 2019 compared to the year before.

The figures mark the first time in decades that Boeing recorded negative orders on commercial aircraft.

Earlier, Airbus announced that it delivered more airplanes than it foresaw in 2019 and thus overthrew Boeing as the world's largest manufacturer of airplanes.
