Google to acquire Irish startup Pointy

Alphabet's Google said on Tuesday it plans to buy an Irish retail startup Pointy. As per the official announcement, Pointy "has helped thousands of local retailers bring their product inventory online. The deal is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close in the coming weeks."

Pointy founders Marks Cummins and Charles Bibby said that "over the past several years we’ve developed a very close partnership with Google. It became clear that we shared the same vision of how technology can improve local retail businesses."

They added that Pointy was closely collaborating with Google during the last few years and that "by joining forces, we will be able to help people discover local stores and products on a much larger scale." The value of the acquisition hasn't been disclosed.
