Maas: We can reach a compromise on Libya

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said on Tuesday participants of the Berlin conference on Libya could be able to reach an understanding. He noted that the agreement "is a prerequisite for finding a political solution to the conflict in Libya instead of a military one."

The conference should take place on January 19 in Berlin with Russia, the US, China, the UK, Italy, France, Turkey, Egypt, Algeria, the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of the Congo, and the representatives of the UN, the EU, the African Union and the Arab League participating.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said earlier today that Turkey will not allow the Syrian government to break the Idlib ceasefire deal arranged last week with Russia. Also, Libyan National Army leader Khalifa Haftar left Moscow today without signing the ceasefire agreement with the UN-backed Government of National Accord's head Fayez al-Sarraj, after hours of negotiations.
