Europe opens mixed amid coronavirus fears, data

European markets traded mixed at the opening bell on Wednesday as the investors are carefully watching developments regarding the new coronavirus. Meanwhile, Banco Santander and the Swiss pharmaceutical giant Novartis International AG reported their earnings

Also, according to GfK's report, the consumer spending indicator for Germany reached 9.9 points. At the same time, German statistical office Destatis reported index of import prices in Germany declined by 0.7% in December. House prices in the UK also increased by 0.5% in January compared to the previous month.

The German DAX stood flat as the session kicked off. Lufthansa was the biggest winner on the Frankfurt Boerse, rising 1.61%. The CAC 40 was down by 0.07% with Kering sliding 0.82%. Over in London, the FTSE 100 grew by 0.09%. St.James Place PLC increased by 1.86%.
