Goldman Sachs to launch digital checking account

American investment bank Goldman Sachs Group Inc. announced on Wednesday that it is planning to release a new digital checking account next year. According to a bank spokesperson, the new account will be delivered through Marcus, Goldman's online bank product launched in October 2016. Marcus currently offers online savings accounts, several certificate of deposit (CD) options and personal unsecured loans.

Speaking to investors on Wednesday, the Global Co-Head of Goldman's investment-management division Eric Lane said the 150-year-old investment bank "aspires to be the leading digital consumer bank." Lane went on to say: "We’re trying to deliver a retail bank branch through your phone."

The bank's Chairman and CEO David Solomon noted at the investor meeting that his company is "taking real and significant steps to make Goldman Sachs more transparent and easier to understand."
