Shell's basic EPS down to $0.12 in Q4

Royal Dutch Shell plc revealed on Wednesday that its basic earnings per share (EPS) stood at $0.12 in the last quarter of 2019, showing a decrease compared to the same period the year before when EPS landed at $0.68. Income attributable to shareholders fell to $965 million from last years' final quarter result of $5.6 billion, while operating expenses added 1%, reaching the number of $10.38 billion.

The British-Dutch oil giant booked an income of $15.84 billion in the past year, which is 32% less year-on-year. Operating expenses decreased by 4% to $37.89 billion from 2018's $39.31 billion, while the basic EPS for the full-year 2019 stood at $1.97, ensuring a 30% decrease.

The company's CEO Ben van Beurden said: "The strength of Shell’s strategy and portfolio has enabled delivery of competitive cash flow performance in 2019 despite challenging macroeconomic conditions in refining and chemicals, as well as lower oil and gas prices. We generated $47 billion in cash flow from operating activities excluding working capital movements and distributed over $25 billion in dividends and share buybacks to our shareholders."
