Iran's satellite launch has 'nothing to do' with missiles - Hatami

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami (pictured) dismissed on Wednesday allegations by the United States that Tehran is using its satellite launches to develop its ballistic missile capabilities.

According to the IRNA news agency, Hatami insisted the satellite program is a "civilian issue" and has "nothing to do with missile talk."

After Iran launched its Zafar satellite over the weekend, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused the country of using satellite launches to advance its missile program, claiming the technologies for satellite and longer-range missile launches are "virtually identical."
