Caterpillar's North American retail sales dip in January

US industrial machines titan Caterpillar saw a decrease in retail sales of its equipment in the three-month rolling period ending January in all regions around the world, with the North America region suffering the steepest decline, dropping 11%.

Broken down by industries, the company widely considered a bellwether of the US and the global economy registered a rise of 31% in retail sales of its machines in resource industries in the Asia-Pacific region. Once again, its sales were hit the hardest on the home turf in North America, marking a 23% drop. When it comes to construction industries, Latin America was the only region to bring a rise of 5% in retail sales.

The Deerfield, Illinois-based corporation's stock traded 0.11% in the green minutes into Thursday's session on Wall Street.
