Europe opens flat with earnings in focus

European stock markets started the last trading session of the week more or less unchanged as investors digested corporate earnings released by The Royal Bank of Scotland, Groupe Renault, Credit Agricole S.A., and AstraZeneca plc ahead of the opening bell. In addition, Germany's statistical office Destatis reported the country's gross domestic product stood flat in the fourth quarter of 2019. Meanwhile, several high-ranking officials were out of the government after British Prime Minister Boris Jonhson decided to reshuffle his cabinet.

The FTSE 100 and the CAC 40 both started flat at 09:00 am CET. In London, Centrica plc was the best performer, growing 4.12%, while Vivendi SA increased 1.93%, beating other stocks in Paris. The DAX gained just 0.08% at the same time, as Deutsche Bank AG advanced 1.49%.

The euro and the pound both traded unchanged at 8:59 am CET, selling for $1.08419 and $1.30584 respectively.
