Euro area GDP growth at 0.1% in Q4

The seasonally adjusted gross domestic product (GDP) in the euro area increased by 0.1% in the fourth quarter of 2019 compared to the previous three months, according to a flash estimate released by Eurostat on Friday. The figure is unchanged for Eurostat's preliminary estimate. In the whole European Union (EU27), the economy grew by 0.1% quarter on quarter. In the previous quarter, the GDP had grown 0.3% in both the euro area and the EU28.

Annually, the seasonally adjusted GDP grew by 1.2% in the Eurozone in the last three months of 2019, while the figure was up by 1.4% in the EU27 compared to the same period in 2018.

Meanwhile, employment in both the euro area rose by 0.3% in the fourth quarter, while in the EU27 it added 0.2% compared to the previous quarter. On an annual basis, employment grew by 1% in the Eurozone and was up 0.9% in the EU27.
