AKK to propose CDU successor on Feb. 24 - report

German Christian Democrats (CDU) Leader Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer (pictured) is set to announce her proposal for her replacement on February 24, German magazine Focus reported on Friday citing a CDU official.

"She’ll make a proposal to us on February 24," Michael Kretschmer, the CDU premier of the eastern state of Saxony, stated and stressed it would be a specific proposal.

Earlier this week, Kramp-Karrenbauer confirmed she will step down from the position of CDU leader this summer and that she will not be running for the position of German chancellor in the next general election. Media reports suggested Friedrich Merz is planning to run for the party head role again after losing out to Kramp-Karrenbauer in 2018.
