US retail sales rise 0.3% in January

Seasonally adjusted advance estimates of retail and food services sales for January in the United States increased by 0.3% to $529.8 billion compared to the previous month, the US Census Bureau said in a report released on Friday. On an annual basis, retail and food services sales jumped 4.4% from January 2019.

Retail trade sales rose 0.1% in the first month of 2020 compared to December and climbed 4% year-on-year. Gasoline stations soared 10.4% compared to the previous year, while nonstore retailers sales grew by 8.4%.

The retail and food services sales figure for December was revised downward from a rise of 0.3% to an increase of 0.2%.
