US import prices rise 0.3% YoY in January

The United States import price index remained unchanged in January compared to the previous month and increased 0.3% year-over-year, the country's Bureau of Labor Statistics said on Friday. The prior month-on-month figure was revised from 0.3% to 0.2%.

Prices for import fuel declined 2.2% in the first month of 2020 compared to December, led by decreases in both petroleum and natural gas prices. On a yearly basis, the prices increased 11.3%. Prices for nonfuel imports rose 0.2% month-on-month and 0.9% YoY.

Meanwhile, the export price index grew 0.7% on a monthly and 0.5% on a yearly basis. The index measuring the annual change was lowered to -0.9% from -0.7%.
