Nanoco sues Samsung for infringement

British nanotechnology company Nanoco said on Monday it has filed a lawsuit against Samsung Electronics Co and its affiliates. A patent infringement lawsuit has been filed in a district court in Texas regarding quantum dots produced by Nanoco.

Quantum dots (QDs) are the central topic in nanotechnology. They are tiny semiconductor particles a few nanometres in size, having optical and electronic properties that differ from larger particles due to quantum mechanics. They are mostly used to make vibrant screen displays. Nanoco accused defendants that they have "infringed" their patents and now asks for a permanent ban from "further acts of infringement and significant monetary damages."

Nanoco's Chairman Christopher Richards said that they "were therefore naturally disappointed when Samsung ended the collaboration and launched its QD-based televisions without entering into either a licensing or supply agreement with Nanoco."
